Metro & TWM Bus Guide
to the Birmingham Markets
In 1166, King Henry II granted a charter to Birmingham
allowing the City to set up a Market in the St. Martins area.
Local people travelled from miles around - some on foot, some
on horse back and others driving horses and carts to trade their
wares and buy fresh produce.
Nowadays the Markets are just a short TWM
bus ride away from the Metro stop at St Pauls. Catch one of
TWM's
brand new, low floor, buses on route 16 from the stop on Constitution
Hill (the opposite side of the road to St Paul's Metro stop)
to stop Sc at the Markets (see map below). There's a vast array
of goods on offer ranging from fresh meat, fish and vegetables
to household fare and fabrics - the fascinating world of Birmingham
Markets.
