News: Metro Fares Revised from 2nd January 2009

Metro has announced that, in line with the fare revision taking place on National Express West Midlands and Coventry bus
services, there will be changes to fares on the Metro from 2 January 2009.

An aim of the update has been to simplify the cash fares-scale with four bands becoming three. We have also introduced a
simple return fares structure.

An average increase of 6.5% will be applied to fares. An Adult Metro Daytripper (off-peak) changes from £4.00 to £4.20. A
Birmingham to Wolverhampton Metro fare rises from £4.20 to £4.50 return.

How to secure the lowest Metro fare

If you use the Metro daily:
Buy your monthly pass via direct debit for £39.25. This will allow unlimited travel on the Metro for one month and will save you £17.55 a month compared to weekly travel cards, an annual saving of £210.60.

If you travel during the week and pay cash:
Buy a weekly travel card for £14.20 from your nearest travel shop or travel card agent. This will allow unlimited travel on the Metro for seven days and will save you up to £17.30 compared to return tickets.

If you travel occasionally:
Purchase a Metro Daytripper for £4.20. This will allow unlimited travel on Saturday and Sundays and during off peak hours Monday - Friday.
